Crystalline Glazes

Crystalline glazes may be divided into two broad categories; glossy transparent and opaque matte. The glazes I developed for these works are matte crystalline glazes, although at high temperatures some of these glazes run and pool to form a glass in the centre of bowls or in the hollows on the top of the closed forms, (see the soliflore vase Occlusion, for example).

Sakura by Night

Sakura by Night : : Shallow Bowl 3 x 11 cm

Crystalline Glazes

Crystals grow in a glaze as it is molten during firing. The kiln is fired to 1280°C, cooled, then held at around 1060°C for 4 hours.
